You’ve decided to create content for your web pages, but aren’t sure how many words each page should have to ensure that search engines and visitors come back often. It’s a dilemma that many web site owners face. They don’t want to have too little words, but they don’t want to have too many words, either. It’s a delicate balance that every web site owner has to know in order to have a site that is search engine optimized and visitor friendly. In this newsletter, we will discuss the appropriate length for pages, and the reason why your pages should adhere to this length requirement.

What is a good length for pages?

Ideally, each page should have at least 700 words, but no more than 1500 words. Anything less than 700 words and search engine spiders might just skip over your site entirely; anything more than 1500 and spiders won’t take the time to search through the content for keywords.

When I write the content, what should I strive to do?

You should strive to write content that is entertaining and easy to read. Don’t drone on and on just to meet the 700 word requirement. Find things to talk about that are relevant to your site and come up with ways to say them in a concise manner. Remember that search engine bots aren’t the only thing to come to your site—people are also coming to your site and they will want to read content that makes them want to visit again. Aim to please them first, then the search engine bots.

How do I please search engine bots?

Pleasing search engine bots is as simple as having 700+ words of content and some keywords sprinkled into your content. Keywords are words that the search engine bots immediately spot and use to figure out how to rank your site. In a document of 700 words, you’ll want to have at least 7 keywords, but preferably around 21, throughout your content. When using keywords, make sure to sprinkle them naturally throughout the document so that you do not distract your reader from what the content is about.

Why should I have pages with content between 700 and 1500 words?

The reasons for this are simple. Having pages with content of 700-1500 words will please visitors and search engine spiders. Pleasing both will help your site attract more traffic and become successful.

Visitors who come to your site want to see useful content. If your content is short, chances are, it’s not very useful to visitors. Good content is content that is worthwhile to read and tells the visitor something they don’t already know. It must be packed with information and details. Few can accomplish this in less than 700 words, which is why it is often necessary to use that many words.

However, it is also important not to be too wordy with your content. People want to be able to quickly get the content they need. They don’t want to read through hundreds of words of fluff in order to get what they came for. So be concise and try to make sure your content doesn’t go over 1500 words.

Spiders who come to your site want to have a good amount of content to “chew” on. That is, they want to have enough content to report back to the search engine database. Less than 700 words really isn’t enough content for a spider to bring back to a search engine database, so spiders tend to ignore pages with under 700 words.

Spiders, much like human visitors, also don’t like pages with excessive amounts of words. Pages with 1500 words are usually a big turnoff to spiders, and even if a spider does visit the page, chances are they won’t report the contents of the page back to the search engine database for which they work. That is why you must strive to be concise not just for human visitors, but for the robot(spider) visitors as well.

If you are able to limit your pages to between 700 and 1500 words, you will do well with human visitors and search engine spiders. That’s the goal of every web site owner and should be your goal as well.

Writing content between 700-1500 words is easy as long as you come up with good content to write about and try to be as concise as possible. It’s just that easy!

When it comes to writing articles, many of us use brainstorming to come up with article ideas. As nice as it is to know what to write about, you also need to know what to write. There are times when this can be just as difficult as deciding what to write about. One of the ways to solve this problem is to use an outline. In fact, an outline is a tool that can help save you time and even stress.

An outline is defined as a summary of work. That summary is usually composed of headings and subheadings. These heading and subheadings are often categorized as individual paragraphs. The headings and subheadings are used to give you and idea as to what you should write for each paragraph or at least what each paragraph should be about. In a way, an outline is like a written brainstorming session. The only difference is that you are taking your brainstorming a step further, by building off of the ideas that you originally came up with.

As it was stated above, an outline will save you time. Unfortunately, there are many writers who believe that an outline will actually cost them time; in most cases, this isn’t true. An outline can take on average five minutes to fifteen minutes to create, but you need to remember what you are creating for yourself. Essentially, you are creating a guide to follow. Once you have an outline, you will find yourself just writing, as you have already come with the ideas needed to write an article. This alone will save you a considerable amount of time. In fact, with a detailed outline, you are less likely to experience writers block, which could not only cost you time, but stress as well.

In addition to saving time and stress, outlines often help writers produce better articles. An outline acts as a guide for you; therefore, you will find that using an outline results in more organized articles. In fact, article writers who use outlines are usually able to create easy to read articles. This is because when a writer uses an outline, they often find a way to make their article paragraphs flow together, which is important to many readers. Your articles are more likely to be filled with important information, if and when you use an outline. Many article writers have great ideas, but when it comes time to turn those ideas into an article, many writers draw a blank. Having all of your article ideas or points that you would like mentioned in your articles recorded in an outline is the best way to ensure that nothing is left out. This is just another one of the many ways that outlines help article writers create better content.

When it comes to outlines, one of the most common questioned as is “what should an outline look like?” In all honestly, it really doesn’t matter. As previously mentioned, most outlines are composed of heading and subheadings. A heading is often used to describe the main point or topic of each paragraph. Subheadings are often used to outline how that paragraph will be handled; therefore, a summary of the points covered in the paragraph will often be outlined in a subheading. The format that you use can be a traditional outline, like what is used in most college or high school educational programs, but the decision is yours to make. In fact, for the best chance of success, you are urged to create your own outline, one that you feel comfortable making and reading.

The first step in creating an outline is to create yourself a main point to focus on. This point is often referred to as a thesis statement. For instance, if you are interested in writing an article on creating your own gift baskets, your thesis statement could be “creating your own low-cost gift baskets,” or so on. No matter what you are writing about, your thesis statement should be the first thing that you write down. It is what you, essentially, will be building off of. Each of your paragraphs and your outline’s headings and subheadings will be dependant on your thesis statement, which, as mentioned before, will be the main focus point of your article.

The decision as it if you want to use an outline or not is yours to make; however, you are advised to keep the above mentioned points in mind. Whether you find yourself struggling to find something to write or if you are unorganized, an outline may be the solution to your problems.

If you are looking for ways to quickly write your articles, you should examine outlines. In the long run, they may save you a considerable amount of money.

In today’s society, everyone is searching for easy ways to make money. In a way, affiliate programs can be considered one of those opportunities. If you have a website that receives a high amount of traffic, you may be able to make money with affiliate programs, with little or no work. Despite the possibility of making money with little effort, you may want to think about putting forth some effort. There are a number of relatively easy ways that you can go about increasing your commissions.

If you are already in an affiliate program, you likely know exactly what affiliate program commissions are. If this is your first time joining an affiliate program, you may want to learn a little bit more. Affiliate program commissions are just like the commissions that many retail stores offer their employees for making large sales. If and when you join an affiliate program, you will be notified of your commission rate ahead of time. Say, that rate is five percent. Every sale that you help to generate, you will receive five percent of that sale in commissions. Many times, all you need to do is place a link or a banner on your website. That is why affiliate programs are often considered on the easiest ways to make legitimate money online.

One of the easiest ways to increase the amount of commission you make with affiliate programs to choose your programs wisely. When it comes to affiliate commissions, different programs offer affiliates different commission rates. Typically, a common commission percentage is three to five percent. There are a select number of affiliate programs that have a ten or even a fifteen percent commission rate for affiliates. Joining an affiliate program that has a relatively high commission percentage is one of the easiest ways that you can increase the amount of money you make.

Another one of the many ways that you can go about increasing your commission is to be successful. Although this is often easier said than done, it can help you immensely. Most affiliate programs reward their highest performing affiliates. For instance, once you reach a high level of earning, like one thousand dollars in sales, you may be promoted to a higher commission level. Many affiliate programs do this as a way to motivate their affiliates. If you can successfully make sales, you can see an increase in the amount of commission you make.

In addition to choosing your affiliate programs wisely and performing better, you can also increase your commissions through experimentation. There are a large number of different ways that you can go about increasing your affiliate program commissions. The only thing is that not all of these ways work for everyone. The best thing that you can do is experiment. You will need to take the time to see what works for you and what doesn’t. When experimenting, you may want to try writing affiliate product reviews or recommendations, sending out monthly newsletters, optimizing your website for search engines, or submitting articles to article directories.

It is also important that you give it time. Increasing your affiliate commissions is not something that will happen overnight. The only way that you can increase your commissions right off the bat is by signing up with a high paying affiliate program. However, even with those programs, you are not guaranteed to make any sales right away. If you are interested in using search engine optimization on your site, sending out newsletters, or submitting to article directories, you need to give these methods time to work. Although you may want to see results right away, it doesn’t matter if it helps one week from now or two months from now, at least you will be able to see an increase in your commissions.

By keeping the above mentioned points in mind, you should be able to see an increase in the amount of money you make with affiliate programs. After time, you may very well end up making a full-time income just with affiliate programs.

The only problem is that to have internet sales, your product needs to be seen and known about. Unfortunately, there are many e-book authors who believe that this is too hard of a task. While it may be difficult at times, there are a number of easy ways that you can go about having your e-book successfully promoted.

Before examining how you can promote your e-book, it is first important to touch on the ever so popular question, “why?” When selling a product, including an e-book, this is a question that shouldn’t even be asked, but it still is. Blogs are now an extremely popular and important part of the internet. Millions of people blog every day. As blogs have evolved over the years, so has the commenting system. Now anyone can make comments on a particular blog posting. As blog commenting has grown more popular, so has spam commenting. In this newsletter, we’ll go over why comments are a great form of feedback for your blog, how they help the credibility of your content, what spam comments are and how to prevent them from happening.

Comments – A great form of feedback

When blogs first came around, they were simply online journals. No one could post comments on a blog posting. That all changed in 1998 with OpenDiary, a site which allowed people to comment on blog postings. Now every blog, whether it is remotely or self-hosted, includes this option to comment.

Commenting is great because it allows real people to tell you what they think about your form. It gives you feedback on what you are doing right and what you may need to improve. Comments can be encouraging to you and motivate you to post more quality blog messages. Or they can be constructive criticism to make you work harder to get better at writing content.

Whatever the style of comment is, it is still very useful to your blog. High numbers of comments have the ability to make a blog look credible because they show that the blog is being read by a lot of people. That’s something that every blog owner wants, and comments help to let them know just how many people enjoy their content.

Bad comments

Unfortunately, spammers have now started to use comments as a way to spam. How do you know what a spam comment is? Well, a spam comment is a comment that only advertises another site or product. If the comment seems bland/generic with a cheap link thrown in, then it’s definitely a spam comment.

Here is an example of a typical spam comment:

“Hey, this site is really cool. Check out my really cool site at spamsite.com.”

Of course not all spam comments will be this blatant, but you get the point.

Fortunately for bloggers, as spam comments have grown, so has the ways to prevent it. Here are a couple ways that you can prevent spam comments from even being posted on your blog.

#1: Close off commenting on older blog posts

There are options for you to stop comments from being posted on any particular blog post. Lots of times, spammers will post comments in weeks or months old posts. So take away this opportunity from them to keep it from happening. Most blog hosters now offer this as a standard option in the tool panel. If one of your posts has been up for a couple weeks, close it up.

#2: Take advantage of software offered to prevent comment spam

If you host your own blog using WordPress, you can use an option in that software to prevent spam. Even if you aren’t using WordPress, you can still use other Spam comment blocking software like Spam Karma, Akismet, and Bad Behavior. While these aren’t 100% effective, they have proven to be quite effective in preventing spam from happening.

#3: Take a look at your settings and see what can be tweaked to toughen your protection

Lots of blogs now have settings to help prevent spam. If you already have a spam blocker on in your blog and are still experiencing spam, take a closer look at the settings to see if there’s anything that can be tweaked to make your protection stronger. However, if you do this, you should closely monitor your posts to make sure legit comments aren’t being blocked out. If they are, you might have to lighten up a bit.

#4: Regularly read your blog comments

Be sure to keep an eye on your comments. Even the best software or setting can’t prevent everything, so you will have to occasionally manually remove comments on your own.

By applying the above principles, you can ensure that your blog is full of only good, quality comments, which will help your credibility tremendously.

Google Adsense is a program that allows businesses to advertise on other websites. They business only pays the host website when a consumer clicks on the link to take them to their website. This is a very effective way of advertising because of the millions of people who access the internet every day. It is also a low cost marketing method that businesses of all sizes can benefit from. Websites are eager to host advertisements for other businesses because it doesn’t cost them anything and they earn money for doing it when consumers choose to follow the link from a particular advertisement.

If you are interested in using Google Adsense to advertise then you need to make sure you are aware of their policies. This will make the process smoother for you and eliminate any misunderstandings down the road. This can be a great money maker or advertising tool, but only when it is used correctly.

There is no long term contract with Google Adsense. You can choose to leave the program at any time. You will need to provide written notice by mail or email to Google. All ads will be removed from your website within ten days. They also have the right to discontinue your business from the program at any time for not following their policies. You do have the right to file an appeal if your account is canceled. This gives you the opportunity to discuss the situation with a Google Adsense representative.

You must be approved by Google Adsense before you are allowed to be a part of the program either as a host site for advertisements or to post your ads. The owner of the website must be at least 18 years of age. The approval process involves an application that you complete with information on your website including keywords. You will have a response to your application within two days. Make sure it is completed entirely or your application will be denied.

All communications must take place with Google. This means if you have concerns or issues about an advertisement your business has on a website or about an ad you are hosting on your website everything goes through Google. The two businesses are not to discuss the issue between each other. Google does not guarantee a set amount of clicks or earnings for a host website. It also doesn’t guarantee any increase in traffic or sales for a business.

Google Adsense has the right to use the name of businesses participating in the program for presentations, marketing, and financial reports. Users of Google Adsense are required to pay for the amount of pay per clicks their ads received as outlined. Adsense accounts are non-transferable under any circumstances. They can’t be resold to another provider. A maximum of three ads per webpage can be displayed. Advertisements can’t be placed on webpages that don’t contain content for your website. A webpage can’t be used for the sole purpose of displaying ads to make money.

Click fraud is not acceptable at all by Google Adsense. It damages the reputation of the program and costs the advertisers a great deal of money. Any website hosting advertisements that is believed to be involved in Click Fraud will be banned from using the program. If you chose to use Google Adsense to advertise your business, protect it from Click fraud by purchasing Click Fraud software.

Google Adsense is a great opportunity for businesses to advertise their products and services on various websites and pay only for the number of consumers who click on the link to go to that businesses website. It is also a great way for a business to make money by hosting advertisements for other businesses. Understanding the policies of Google Adsense will help you determine if the program is right for you. It also helps the program work properly for all those involved in it.

Fortunately for them, there are several ways to getting listed quickly, all of which we will go over in this article. These ways include submitting the URL, using keywords, using links, and using blogs to get listed quick.

Tip #1: Submit your URL manually to search engines

Search engines like Google, Altavista and Yahoo all have options for you to manually submit your site. Before submitting, however, it is important to make sure of the following:

1. All pages on your site are complete. Search engine spiders won’t touch incomplete sites.
2. Your site is not full of spam and/or excessive use of keywords. Yet again, spiders won’t touch spam sites, which means your site will be skipped over if it contains lots of spam.

When you submit the site, make sure to submit it only once to each search engine. Submitting multiple times to the same search engine will get you no where. In fact, they might keep your site from ever having a chance at being listed on the search engine.

Tip #2: Use keywords to get spiders to come to your site

Search engine spiders absolutely love sites with good, well-placed and well-used keywords and key phrases. In other newsletters, we have covered the correct use of keywords and key phrases, so you might already be familiar with it. If not, we’ll briefly touch on it right now.

Keywords are words that are used frequently on a site that search engines look for. The key to correct usage of keywords is to make them fit naturally throughout a piece of content and not look like spam. Before writing your content for your site, take a second to decide what the content is about. Then make a list of keywords or key phrases that seem to fit with the topic at hand. Next, write the content and try to sprinkle in the keywords or key phrases throughout the content in a natural, non-distracting way. When you are done writing the content, you should count the number of keywords or key phrases. Then divide that by the total number of words in content. If the number you get is between 1-3%, you’re good to go. If it’s below 1%, try to naturally add in keywords or key phrases. If it’s above 5%, try to take out keywords or key phrases. Aim for the perfect balance of between 1 and 3%.

Tip #3: Use links

Having another site link to you will make spiders that visit the first site come to your site as a result of the link. Many owners of sites related to yours are happy to post a link to your site on their links page. Some might require what is called “reciprocal linking”. This basically means that if they place a link to your site on their page, they want you to return the favor by posting a link to their page on your site. Doing so helps both sites better gain the attention of search engine spiders and helps them both to get listed quickly.

Tip #4: Install a blog on your site

Blogs are extremely popular and quickly listed by search engines. Places like Google are known to index(or list a site/blog) far faster than they list regular web sites. Blogs are listed by search engines like Google within days of being created, whereas it can take weeks and months for search engines to notice a site.

Installing a blog on your site is really easy. All you have to do is install a program such as WordPress on your web site and then use that to make blog postings. If you run a sports site, for instance, you could try making twice a week posts on the blog about sports news. Doing so will help your site as a whole get noticed quicker by search engines.
