Email Marketing Tips

Note: This article is similar to Lesson #27 of our ‘Selling Online 101′ email course.

Using email is a great way to market and promote your e-commerce business. With people being so busy and getting junk mail, how do you make your email stand out? Here are some helpful tips to get you the most benefits from this effective marketing tool. It is important to do some research and attempt to get your marketing sent to a target market that will likely be interested in the products or services you are offering.

Some companies randomly send emails to people who have absolutely no interest in what is being advertised. You will get a very low response from such marketing methods. If your website asks for consumer information including an email address, but respectful. Ask if they are interested in receiving e-mail advertisements and promotions. If they choose not to then don’t add them to your data base for marketing by email. Make sure you have the permission of the consumer to send them such materials. You are required by law to include an opt out link in the event the consumer no longer wants to receive such emails from you.

Statistics show Tuesday and Wednesday are the most effective days to send out marketing emails. Send them out in the morning so that individuals have time to read them during breaks, lunch hours, and in the early evening. You might have a lot of information to pass on to the target market, but keep your email short and to the point. Most internet users like to go through their emails quickly. If yours is lengthy it may get deleted or saved to be read later. You want the consumer to be able to read it as soon as they click on it and get all the information. Make sure you have hyperlinks that take consumers immediately to your website if they are interested. Internet users are not patient. Most will not wait longer than five seconds for your website to appear.

It is important to test your marketing email in the various email programs including Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, and AOL because they all work differently. Your graphics and pictures may be distorted in particular email programs. This will result in all those consumers not being able to use your marketing email as it was intended. Taking the time to conduct these tests can make the difference between an effective email marketing campaign and one that is a flop.

How often do you want to send an email to your consumers? This can be tricky to determine. It really depends on your products or services and your target market. You want to keep your business name fresh in the mind of the consumers but they will stop reading the emails from you if they become too frequent. Some businesses do them weekly or monthly. Others choose to only send an email when there is a huge promotion going on. A business newsletter is a great way to contact the consumer monthly with fresh information. You also want to give consumers a very simple way to change their email address as it is very common to change email service providers.

You need to have an effective system set up to answer any questions emailed to you from customers within 24 hours. This will show your business is serious about keeping them satisfied before, during, and after they make a purchase. Issues come up and most consumers will give your business the opportunity to help resolve the situation. This is your opportunity to prove the integrity of your business.

Email marketing is a very effective and useful tool for marketing your e-business. Taking the time to proceed with the process after you have conducted some research to identify the target market and following these effective email marketing tips will provide you with the opportunity to generate the most business from your marketing campaign. There is a great deal of competition in the world of e-commerce and you will have to work hard to be the best.

Core values explain a lot

I was writing yesterday’s post and something popped in my mind:

I always get a lot of flack when I tell people I’m going to help them for free, because I really like helping other people succeed, and I’m always happy to see people who were having trouble starting up become success stories that largely surpass and outlast my own success.

Whenever I tell “I like to help people”, I always get the “yeah, right” stare.

So, as I was telling you, last night I was writing the other post, the image of people cringing their teeth when reading it, popped in my mind. I dismissed the thoughts, finished the post and didn’t think more of it… For about ten minutes!

You see, I usually check my email right before bed just to check if I have no costumer service enquiries to answer, since I live in a different time zone than most of my costumers and subscribers, and usually, support tickets come during the night. Anyway, as I did go trough my email, there was this one of Frank Kern (big guy in the Internet Marketing arena) with a link to his blog.

I took the bait, clicked the link and there was this video.

Tony Robbins speaking at TED. Finally someone explains why some people (all of us?) really like and need to help others.

So, if you cringed your teeth when reading yesterday’s post, rest assured that I really want you to succeed, and if that will allow you to buy stuff from me or from any of my future promotions, all the better; But if it doesn’t, nothing changes, and we’re friends like before.

One of my other goals is to build a community of like-minded individuals around this blog, so that experiences and can be shared and partnerships can be forged.

Does this sound that awful or that unlikely to happen?

Be active. Immerse yourself. Participate!

how to make e-mail marketing simpler

Note: This article is similar to Lesson #26 of our ‘Selling Online 101′ email course.

Email marketing is one of the most effective and least expensive methods of reaching large volumes of customers who are interested in your products or services. You will want your email marketing campaign to address each person by name to make it more personal. The customer will provide you with their name and email address but you will need to find the best way to store it and use it. Email marketing software is a great way to compile your data. It can also be used to store the purchasing history of a particular consumer. This is good for narrowing your target market on certain email marketing campaigns. What can email marketing software do for you?

It is a wonderful tool for editing text, creating promotions, and writing newsletters. It allows you to add pictures, attachments, backgrounds for color and appeal, images, and sound. You will be able to use templates for features you intend to use regularly. This is definitely a time saver. Using email marketing software will make your materials appear professional which will make the email marketing campaign more successful.

There are many email marketing software packages available to choose from ranging in cost from $99 to $499. The one that works best for you will depend on what you are looking for as well as the objectives of your email marketing campaigns. Not all email marketing software offers the same features. However, there are some basic items you should look for. Choose email marketing software that offers 24/7 customer support. Conduct your own research to find out how effective that customer support has been for other consumers. The software will be useless if you aren’t able to use it properly. There are about to be questions and concerns you have and maybe some technical issues. Customer support needs to be that bridge for you when such issues arise.

Every email marketing software will operate differently. The software has to be easy to install and set up or it will never help your business achieve its goals. It is important that it is simple to navigate yet allows you to be creative. You will want to choose email marketing software than offers you the choice of making a template or working from scratch. You also want email lists simple to create based on various factors. Some software programs offer unlimited size when it comes to your mailing lists. Others set a limit from 2,000 up to 50,000. You will have an idea of the growth you want for your business and can use that to help you in that department.

Unless you have a great deal of experience with email marketing, choose a software program that comes with a wizard and a tutorial system. These will become your best friends while you are learning the ins and outs of the email marketing software. Bounce handling to resend undelivered emails is a wonderful feature to look for as well. It will prevent you from manually having to resend them. It is very important that your software has a quick and efficient way to remove the email address of those who choose to opt out. The law requires you to remove them from your emailing lists within 10 business days.

Email marketing is a very effective way to generate traffic to your website and more sales. Using email marketing software is a very inexpensive and effective way to create email marketing campaigns that are professional quality. Take the time to choose email marketing software that offers all of the features you will need to operate your campaigns properly. On (not) blogging and delays

I’m running late with the promised course on zero-dollar online startups, but bare with me. I’m writing like a maniac and I’m 10 lessons long already, but I still need to capture a few screen-shots to illustrate the whole thing.

I’m leaving nothing behind on this, so bare with me because it will be worth every extra-day.

Also, at the same time I’m unwinding from writing all the “make money” stuff by making a new layout for this blog. Many of you don’t know, but I’m a Photoshop freelancer, and porting my design to a complex platform like WordPress has been a challenge, but I’ve been learning a lot. And hitting my head against the wall, a lot as well!

I’m juggling all this with a full-time job (don’t ask), and with life itself. That’s the holdup right there. don’t even think for a minute, that I’m dropping the ball.

Also, while we’re here, I have two other issues to talk about.

People are emailing me asking whether I’m promoting this or that next-big-thing-out-there product by mister-big-time-guru and what will be my bonus for it.

To answer in one word: NO.

I’ve been doing some introspecting and I’m leaving Internet marketing (at least the so-called arena). The reason for this is that there are way too many wannabees out there that are cluttering every marketing resource available, making a bad name for all hard-working and honest marketers out there. Direct-mail, video, twitter, facebook, you name it and there’s at least a few wannabees there offering everything but the kitchen sink, just for your name and email address, because they read somewhere that “the money is in the list”.

Now, I understand that this may sound a little pro-guru, but it is not. I’m all against most crap that flies off guru’s slave-driven minion ghostwriters and programmers, but I can’t cope with these kids trying to shove every freakin’ promotion down peoples’ throats.

So, for the time being, I’m off.

I still am going to promote products because I have to live too, as you surely understand. But I’m not just doing it to relieve you off your hard-earned money in exchange for old crap in a new box. Sorry if this disappoints you!

And the last thing I wanted to talk about is blogging about blogging. You probably have seen the meteoric rise of such blogs. This is due to a couple of free e-books out there, and I really do not want to be connoted with this sudden rise.

I’m here to stay. I’ll kind of blog about blogging, but I’m not Shoemoney, Problogger, John Chow or even John Cow. I know they are pretty much the authority on blogging about blogging. And they are pretty damn good doing what they do (more about that on a future rant).

But I’m going a slightly different route. I’m going to blog about niche blogging. Sounds the same? Well, it’s not, but you have to jog along with me to find out. I really appreciate you being a reader, and it would much honor me to find that you are tagging along. And don’t be shy… I look forward to read your input.

So are you there still?

How ’bout leaving a comment? It’ll take you a minute, tops, and it will make you instantly cool  8-)
Jog along & enjoy the view.

Miguel

Important Email Marketing Laws

Note: This article is similar to Lesson #25 of our ‘Selling Online 101′ email course.

Email marketing is a very effective way or reaching your target market. It is less expensive than other types of marketing while allowing your to reach large volumes of consumers. By 2008, it is expected to be the most used method of advertising. Are you aware of the various email marketing laws that are in effect throughout the United States and other countries? It is important that you take the time to educate yourself on this topic before you procedure with an email marketing campaign. 36 of the 50 states have privacy laws in place regarding email marketing tactics. There are also laws in Europe, Australia, and Asia. It is a good idea to have an attorney who specializes in these laws to assist you with your email marketing campaigns. If you are a small business planning to go about it on your own, it is very important that you are aware of how these laws affect you.

The CAN-SPAM Act was implemented in the United States to protect the privacy of consumers on January 1st of 2004. CAN-SPAM is short for Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act. The act prevents the use of misleading to and from headers in the email. Marketers are required to include their physical address in the email. There must be an opt out link in every email that gives the consumer the ability to reach the marketer and tell them they no longer want to receive information from them. The sender of the email must work to remove this email address from their data base within 10 business days. Any email that contains sexual content must be clearly labeled and identified before the recipient opens it. Marketers have to get permission from the consumer in order to sell their email address.

Regulators of the internet are getting harder on marketers who violate these laws. They are imposing huge fines. In some cases the sender of these marketing emails can be sentenced to jail for a maximum of five years. The harsher regulations are to protect the users of the internet and email services who felt their privacy was being violated as their email continued to be bogged down with hundreds of solicitation emails that were randomly sent without any target market in mind. As the use of email marketing continues to grow, expect the regulations to be further enforced.

In addition, businesses who continue to send such materials to consumers who have requested to be removed from the data base mailing list may decide to sue you and your company. As a business owner, this can be scary. The law protects you as well though. You will not be liable if a spammer has used your business as a cover for their endeavors. You are also not liable if a virus is found in your email marketing campaign as long as you did not place it there or know it was in place prior to sending out the emails.

The Coalition Against Unsolicited Emails is a non-profit advocate organization to help consumers know their rights, to stop unfair email marketing practices, and to provide businesses with answers to their questions before they engage in such activities. They also work closely with members of Congress to get laws passed that will be in the best interest of both consumers and businesses. Their website is a great place to get information.

Email marketing is a great opportunity to keep your business in the mind of consumers as well as encourage them to make new purchases. It is important that you follow the laws and regulations that have been put in place to protect consumers from unfair email marketing practices. While most businesses do all they can to follow these laws too many don’t. Others simply aren’t educated in these laws so they break them without intending to or realizing they have. The internet is a great place to get additional information of fair email marketing practices as well as the laws for each country. Keep a good eye out for any changes in these laws. There are not any pending issues in the legislation at this time.

Clickthrough Conversion

Note: This article is similar to Lesson #24 of our ‘Selling Online 101′ email course.

Are you interested in joining a pay per click program? If you are, are you interested in being an affiliate or are you looking to have your advertisements displayed? Whichever way you are looking to participate in an affiliate program, it is important that you familiarize yourself with click throughs. Click throughs are an important part of pay per click advertising, whether your ads are the ones being advertised or not.

If you are unfamiliar with pay per click programs and how they operate, you may also be unfamiliar with click throughs. In a pay per click program, an advertisements will be displayed on a website, owned by a participating pay per click affiliate. Although advertisers hope that their ads will be clicked on all the time, the reality is that they aren’t. There are many interenet users who visit a web page and never click on any advertisements. Whether or not an ad is being clicked on and how often that is occurring is important to a pay per click program. That is where click through comes from. Click throughs are when a visitor actually clicks on an advertisement. The overall rate or total of click throughs are referred to a CTR (click through rate).

If you are a pay per click program affiliate, a webmaster who has agreed to display applicable advertisements, you need to aim for a high CTR. The number of click throughs that you receive is extremely important to you. In fact, it will ultimately have an impact on how much money you make. With pay per click programs, advertisers only have to pay for advertisements when one of their advertisements has been clicked. If they do not have to pay, you don’t get paid. Therefore, as a pay per click affiliate, you should be hoping for a high CTR.

Speaking of hoping, hoping is not all that you can do. In fact, as a pay per click program affiliate, you actually have a large say in your CTR. Although you cannot control which of your site visitors or how many of them click on your advertisements, you can make it easier for them to do so. It has been said, on multiple occasions, that to be successful all advertisements need to be displayed above the fold. When it comes to a web page, below the fold is referring to the part of a website that you cannot see. You do not want your site visitors to have to scroll down just to see your advertisements. You want them to be able to see them and hopefully click on them as soon as your website appears on their screen. Making it easy to click your ads is one of the best ways to increase your CTR.

Although pay per click program affiliates have the most control of click throughs, you also have a little bit control, even if you are just considered an advertiser. When signing up for a pay per click program, you get to choose and essentially bid on keywords that you would like associated with your advertisements. These keywords need to be carefully chosen, as they will ultimately have an impact on the success of your advertisements and their click through rates.

For the best success, you will want to choose keywords that are used. If internet users are searching for crib bedding and you sell nursery supplies, you may want to use “crib bedding,” as one of your keywords. When it comes to nursery supplies, crib bedding is one of the most searched phrases. If you give internet users what they are looking for, they will likely take it, or in this sense click on one of your advertisements.

In short, click through rates, also known as CTRs, are an important part of pay per click advertising programs. Whether you are an advertiser or an affiliate, you should keep an eye on your average click through rates; they ultimate decided whether or not you make money.

Whether you are a pay per click affiliate or advertiser, you can easily track and improve your click through rate.

what’s hot?

Note: This article is similar to Lesson #23 of our ‘Selling Online 101′ email course.

Are you an article writer? If so, you likely know exactly how important it is to write fun, interesting, and easy to read articles. Unfortunately, there are many writers who fail to realize that not everyone has the same interests as they do. Of course, you are urged to write articles on subjects that you enjoy or are familiar with, but you are also urged to broaden your horizons. You may want to think about writing articles that cover “hot topics,” even if those topics are outside of your comfort zone.

When it comes to writing articles that are outside of your comfort zone, you may be like most other writers. Many automatically wonder how they get started. There are a number of different approaches that you can take. Your first step should include brainstorming. Brainstorming is how many writers, just like you, come up with their article ideas. Unfortunately, there are many individuals who believe that brainstorm involves using your brain and that alone. In reality, your mind isn’t the only tool that you can use to make brainstorming worth its while. You can also use the internet. In fact, when it comes to writing articles that you are unfamiliar with, you will likely find that the internet is your best source of information.

As it was stated above, to reach the most readers, you want to write articles that focus on subjects that are considered “hot topics.” This can include a number of different things. For instance, a “hot topic,” can be considered a recent new report, gossip concerning a popular celebrity, a highly debated issue, or even a popular product or service that is available to the public. The decision as to which “hot topic,” you would like to cover is yours to make; however, you should know that many internet users enjoy reading articles that focus on popular products or services. These types of articles are often referred to as product reviews.

If you are interested in writing an article that is centered on a specific product or one that serves as a product review, you will want to examine popular shopping websites. Two of the most popular websites include eBay and Amazon. What is nice about eBay and Amazon is that they often list popular, big ticket items right on their home pages. These items are often the ones that the most purchased or at least researched. Writing an article that is focused on popular items; items that internet users are buying is one of the best ways to create fun, interesting, and needed articles; ones that will actually be read. The same can be said for a commonly offered services or a popular news story.

Once you decide exactly what you would like to write about, which is done during brainstorming, you will next need to decide exactly what you will write. Perhaps, the best way to do this is to create an outline for yourself. When making your outline, it is important that you first thoroughly research or examine the topic that you plan on covering in your article. For instance, if you are looking to write an article on a popular name brand shower cleaner, it is advised that you familiarize yourself with the cleaner, as much as you can. The best product review articles are produced by writers who have actually used the product in question, but use isn’t required. You can easily find online product reviews; in fact, you can do this right at the Amazon website.

When writing on a subject, particularly a popular item or service, your best chance of success involves using a shopping website like Amazon or eBay; however, you do have other options. Those other options involve standard internet searches and keyword research tools. A standard internet search will allow you to determine which topics are already used as articles; thus giving you an idea of your competition. Keyword research tools often tell you exactly what keywords internet users are searching with and how those searches are being performed.

Whatever you choose to write about, whether it is covering a product, service, or a news story, you are sure to find success, as long as you cover something that is popular at the moment or in need. This approach is one of the easiest and quickest ways to get your name and your articles distributed over the internet.

Even “hot topic,” articles can be boring to read. That is why it is important that you write from the heart.

Free Search Engine Traffic

Note: This article is similar to Lesson #22 of our ‘Selling Online 101′ email course.

If you would like to make money selling e-books, you must first create yourself an e-book. After your e-book has been created, you will then need to sell it. Many e-book authors, when selling their creations, use an e-book sales page. An e-book sales page is a page that outlines the e-book available for sale, as well as its price. Although an e-book sales page is a great way to advertise your e-book it won’t help you get sales alone. You also need traffic. If your e-book sale page isn’t seen, no one will know that you have an e-book available for sale.

When it comes to generating traffic, to your e-book sales page, you have a number of different options. For the best success, you are urged to take an “organic,” approach. An organic approach is one that is considered all natural, versus ones that are forced or made up. An example of a non-organic marketing approach is participating in a pay-per-click program. One of the most popular types of organic internet marketing approaches involves the use of articles, namely distributing them to article directories. The use of an organic traffic increasing tactic, like the use of articles, will not only help to increase your traffic, but it will also keep you, your e-book, or your business name in good standing. This is important because many online sellers have started turning to back-hand marketing techniques.

As it was mentioned above, the best ways to use articles to generate organic traffic is by distributing them to article directories. Article directories are websites that host a large collection of articles. In exchange for allowing an article directory to display your article on their site free of charge, you will be rewarded with a link. That link is often referred to as a back-link. If properly set up, readers who find your articles in article directories will be able to make it to your website. If you choose the right link, they can be directed right to your e-book sales page! Essentially, this means that you will not only increase your website traffic, but you may also increase your e-book sales.

Although your best bet is to create articles and distribute them to article directories, you may also want to think about including content, or articles, on your own website. Whether you have a whole e-book sales site or even just one simple web page, you can get a large amount of traffic from internet search engines, but only if your site is optimized for them. Search engine optimization, which is often referred to as SEO, encompasses a number of different things, but you may want to focus on content, as it is one of the easiest methods. You will want to have content on your website; content that search engines will pick up.

When writing articles, whether you plan on using them for your own e-book sales page or article directories, you are urged to examine programs that are known as keyword research tools. Keyword research tool programs allow you to determine what keywords or keyword phrases internet users are searching with. If any of these keywords apply to the subject of your e-book, you are urged to use them. Using applicable keywords or keyword phrases will not only generate organic traffic, but it may also help to increase your sales, by brining in customers who are interested in what you have to sell.

In short, articles, whether they are displayed on your own e-books sales page or distributed to article directories, can help you generate organic traffic. As previously mentioned, organic traffic is more likely to result in a high number of e-book sales. Organic traffic is all natural; therefore, website visitors actually want to come to your e-book sales page, not just because they are being paid to do so.

educating through video

Note: This article is similar to Lesson #20 of our ‘Selling Online 101′ email course.

People from third-world or developing countries who want to get updated or advanced education from industrialized nations are having a hard time, mostly because of immigration or visa requirements. This is much is true in countries like Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom, whose immigration qualifications are very stringent. In some countries, the United States requires that a certain amount be placed in trust as a bond to ensure that visitors do return to their countries of origin.

Educators in these developed countries recognize the desire of foreign students to avail themselves of superior standards in education. This is where the internet becomes a central tool in global, quality education.

If you go online today, you will find plenty of colleges, universities and even Ivy League institutions offering online education ranging from certification, degree, post graduate and doctorate level courses. These online schools and universities are certainly convenient for those who cannot enter developed countries due to lack of qualifications for visa approval requirements.

In the domestic front, these online schools become an alternative to the physically handicapped or mentally ill. For people with motor dysfunctions such as Parkinson’s disease, online education becomes a saving grace in their lives. It not only becomes convenient, but it also provides these people with a connection to the world right in their own homes. Having the burden of education addressed by the internet is a convenience for the operators of care facilities as they can exclusively use these online schools for the education of their patients or as extra sources and materials used in their curriculum.

With all of these in mind, new materials and tools for online instruction need to be developed. Foremost among these necessary tools is audio and video streaming through the internet. Audio-video streaming allows for two people to instantly communicate from distinctly separate locations. An instructor can use the internet to talk to his or her student face to face, so to speak.

One thing our educators agree upon is that there is no better teacher than experience. In recent years, companies started manufacturing educational videos for use by infants. By using these video, infants are projected to start learning at an earlier age than before. Because of the audio-video experience, the attention given to these videos by an infant is considerably more than they would give to a children’s book. In being able to grab attention and interest, the video succeeds in educating the mind of the child.

In the same manner, the use of audio and video in the education of older children, juveniles and adults is a more interesting and entertaining experience than a plain chemistry book. With a person actually able to see the animated structure of an atom, the curiosity of that individual is stimulated. When people become curious, their imagination becomes active and they strive to gather more information about the subject.

This is where the importance of education through video lies. The content (assuming that it is interesting) grabs the viewers’ attention and stirs their curiosity, thereby stimulating a thirst for knowledge.

As internet audio-video streaming technology improves, the more use they will become to online educational institutions. People who have knowledge of how to install and use these utilities are quickly becoming assets to many entrepreneurs, especially those businesses that are situated in the internet.

The use of video streaming technology by websites has ballooned significantly. Even websites designed by amateurs and those people who have their own blog sites are starting to sprout videos. Video streaming is starting to grow. You might want to grow with it.
