Google Adsense is a very common method businesses use to advertise their business online. It involves working with other websites who host ads for various businesses. The host website gets paid a certain amount every time a consumer clicks the link to the advertiser’s website. This is an effective and low cost way of advertising. It is also a way for host websites to earn extra revenue. There are some frequently asked questions about Google Adsense, so I am going to provide the answers here for you.

What are channels? They allow the advertiser to see detailed reports about particular advertisements. This is a great way to find out what ads are doing the best as well as which websites that they are on are leading to the most traffic directed to your website. There are two types of channels: URL and custom. URL channels require you to enter the URL that you want to track. You can choose to track an entire website or only individual pages of it. Custom channels allow you to track information by a particular ad to compare them.

Websites that host advertisements frequently ask when they will get paid. Payments are only made monthly of $100 or more. You will receive either a check or automatic deposit, which ever you prefer, within 30 days of the previous month. If your earnings are less than $100 they will continue to accumulate until they reach more then $100. For example if you earn $110 in December you will be paid $110 within 30 days. A common concern of website hosts for advertisements is do I have any control over the ads placed on my website? These websites do get the opportunity to filter the content that comes in for ads. You simply choose the Competitive Ad Filter in the AdSense Setup tab. You will be walked through the filtering process from there.

How much will I earn? This varies depending on the number of ads you host on your website, how much they pay per click, and the number of responses each ad gets. There is no set amount you are guaranteed to earn and no maximum earning potential.

How much will it cost? There is a five dollar set up fee to start advertising. Then you will be charged depending on the amount you agreed to pay per click. The more clicks your ads receive, the more you will be charged during that month.

What if I want to stop being a part of Google Adsense? Advertisers and websites that host advertising can choose to stop being a part of the Google Adsense network at any time. Written notice has to be mailed or emailed to Google. Within ten days the account will be discontinued. Advertisers will still be charged per click during that ten day span. So, as I was telling you, last night I was writing the other post, the image of people cringing their teeth when reading it, popped in my mind. I dismissed the thoughts, finished the post and didn’t think more of it… For about ten minutes!

You see, I usually check my email right before bed just to check if I have no costumer service enquiries to answer, since I live in a different time zone than most of my costumers and subscribers, and usually, support tickets come during the night. Anyway, as I did go trough my email, there was this one of Frank Kern (big guy in the Internet Marketing arena) with a link to his blog.

I took the bait, clicked the link and there was this video.

So, if you cringed your teeth when reading yesterday’s post, rest assured that I really want you to succeed, and if that will allow you to buy stuff from me or from any of my future promotions, all the better; But if it doesn’t, nothing changes, and we’re friends like before.

One of my other goals is to build a community of like-minded individuals around this blog, so that experiences and can be shared and partnerships can be forged.

I’m leaving nothing behind on this, so bare with me because it will be worth every extra-day.

Also, at the same time I’m unwinding from writing all the “make money” stuff by making a new layout for this blog. Many of you don’t know, but I’m a Photoshop freelancer, and porting my design to a complex platform like WordPress has been a challenge, but I’ve been learning a lot. And hitting my head against the wall, a lot as well!

I’m juggling all this with a full-time job (don’t ask), and with life itself. That’s the holdup right there. don’t even think for a minute, that I’m dropping the ball.

Also, while we’re here, I have two other issues to talk about.

People are emailing me asking whether I’m promoting this or that next-big-thing-out-there product by mister-big-time-guru and what will be my bonus for it.

To answer in one word: NO.

I’ve been doing some introspecting and I’m leaving Internet marketing (at least the so-called arena). The reason for this is that there are way too many wannabees out there that are cluttering every marketing resource available, making a bad name for all hard-working and honest marketers out there. Direct-mail, video, twitter, facebook, you name it and there’s at least a few wannabees there offering everything but the kitchen sink, just for your name and email address, because they read somewhere that “the money is in the list”.

Now, I understand that this may sound a little pro-guru, but it is not. I’m all against most crap that flies off guru’s slave-driven minion ghostwriters and programmers, but I can’t cope with these kids trying to shove every freakin’ promotion down peoples’ throats.

So, for the time being, I’m off.

I still am going to promote products because I have to live too, as you surely understand. But I’m not just doing it to relieve you off your hard-earned money in exchange for old crap in a new box. Sorry if this disappoints you!

And the last thing I wanted to talk about is blogging about blogging. You probably have seen the meteoric rise of such blogs. This is due to a couple of free e-books out there, and I really do not want to be connoted with this sudden rise.

I’m here to stay. I’ll kind of blog about blogging, but I’m not Shoemoney, Problogger, John Chow or even John Cow. I know they are pretty much the authority on blogging about blogging. And they are pretty damn good doing what they do (more about that on a future rant).

But I’m going a slightly different route. I’m going to blog about niche blogging. Sounds the same? Well, it’s not, but you have to jog along with me to find out. I really appreciate you being a reader, and it would much honor me to find that you are tagging along. And don’t be shy… I look forward to read your input.

The lessons are pretty entertaining and fun to watch, and that makes the learning process not be overwelming. I don’t know the strategies this year, but last year the guys used facebook and twitter, and both tools went ballistic after that, I wonder why?

I’ll be following as well. You can never learn too much.

So, I’ve been laying low, working on the backstage in a cool new idea that I know you’ll love.

Recently I sent an email to my email subscribers, asking for their feedback by means of a two minute online survey (please do participate if you haven’t already done so, there’s a gift for you to grab).

So, and despite the results are still coming in, let’s see the results so far:

• My first conclusion is that I’m having an amazingly low opening rate on the emails I send to my lists.
• If you are a subscriber, you know I chose not to promote many products as an affiliate. I did so because I thought that’s what people wanted. Less cluttered email boxes, less in-your-face aggressive give-me-your-money emails.

Guess what… my email opening rates dropped like a brick in a pool, go figure.

So that’s something that I really need to address, and to correct. I’ll be documenting my findings in this blog, be sure to subscribe to the rss feed right now.

Onward to the survey itself:

So the gender question was no surprise, there are more male internet marketers than females, but the gap isn’t that big.

As for the agem it was a bug surprise. Especially because I believed that most of my list was in the 31 to 40 range.

And question number 3 was also a surprise. I didn’t expect to have my 70% of my list with my “rivals” – actually, I do it as well, so who am I kidding

As for how long they’ve been marketing online, most are in the 1 to 3 years range, but a lot is just starting!

Mailing lists was also a great surprise. Namely because 5% of my subscribers have a mailing list bigger than mine! -

As being the internet the primary source of income, the results I was expecting were similar, except I thought the gap was bigger.

So, most of the people just make a few bucks per month, and noone is raking over 5K.

Now, that I didn’t see coming. I figured it was the other way around, but nicely done people!

So, the majority of people is making from $25K to $40K per year. About what I expected.

I forgot to ask the Country, to better understand if these numbers are average, or not.

I also asked three other questions:

Q: What would you describe as your biggest challenge in Internet marketing?

A: The main challenges are time and money, closely followed by the technical stuff.

Q: What’s stopping you from shifting to an online business?

A: Another surprise: I thought it might be the money (always needed when you’re starting) and/or the technical stuff. But guess what… People don’t even try because of fear. Fear to fail, to get in legal problems, of unforeseen expenses. But fear nevertheless.

Q: Do you have any questions or suggestions?

A: Most of the people asked for a zero-cost startup walk through, and also ways to deal with “paralysis of analysis”.

So, summing it up:

My list is very polarized. Either you are doing fairly well, or you’re stuck in the first step. I did the survey to see if my list was homogeneous enough for me to target specific needs you might have, but I have questions coming from the both tips of the scale.

My plan

I will use this blog to address specific needs. I’ll create two categories, Beginner and Advanced, in order to classify my posts and articles according the difficulty and applicability.

I will do a step-by-step series ways to generate online income with nothing but what you have already (Internet connection, will to learn, trust in the teacher).

I will also throw several advanced techniques here and there, but in a more random way, so that all you veterans might pick a golden nugget or two along the way.

The challenges

Time… So this might come slower than you really need, and I’m sorry for that, but I’m shuffling projects right now, and my available time is very, very little.

But if you don’t mind waiting, I think you’ll like what I’m going to give you.
